Windows 8 Tutorial – Videos

With the mixed response we have been getting from clients and hearing about on the Internet (people seem to either love it or hate it) we have created a series of videos for beginners or users new to Windows 8. The videos aim to help you get the best use out of the new operating system and range from basic usage, the new start screen right through to the Windows 8 Store. We are also just finishing off one on troubleshooting Windows 8 (so stay tuned).

Below are the links to the video, let us know what you think and if you want videos on any other topic.

Introduction to MS Windows 8

Windows 8 is Microsoft attempt to bring together the interface on both computers, smart phones and tablets. This has made the interface different to older operating systems such as MS Windows 7 and XP and has confused a lot of people. We have put together a video tutorial which guides you through the basics of Windows 8 and shows you the shortcuts on how you can get the best use out of the new operating system.

Topics included in the video are:

  • the new Windows 8 features.
  • start screen.
  • the charms bar.
  • Windows 8 Apps (aka Metro Apps).
  • the desktop.
  • Snapit.
  • various other shortcuts, tips and tricks.

The video is targetted at new users or people thinking of upgrading to Windows 8. If you have any questions or comments on the video please leave them below.

Windows 8 – Where Has My Start Button Gone?

One of the first things people realise when using MS Windows 8 is that Microsoft have taken the good old Start Button away. It has been replaced with the Start Screen but if you are like me the Start Screen may not be ideal for you.

What can you do? Well a number of third parties have come up with utilities that bring back the Start Button. The one we love is Classic Shell which can be downloaded for free at http://www.classicshell.net/.

We have installed it on many users computers and they all love it as it brings back the Start Menu while also allowing you to use the new Start Screen when desired.

Let me know in the comments below what you use and if you want me to do a You Tube video on bringing the start menu back to Windows 8? In the meantime check out our videos (including Windows 8 tutorials) on our YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/dpcomputing
